The UK's Leading Flight Safety Academy

Goodwood Aerodrome, Chichester, West Sussex PO18 0PH, UK

Tel: +44 1243 913 916

Please read our joining instructions below before coming to fly with us.

We are very much looking forward to flying with you.

If you have any questions, feel free to email us or phone +44 1243 913916.

In advance of your course:

  1. Please pay the £200 deposit online from here (or alternatively phone us on +44 1243 913916 and we can take payment over the phone) to confirm your booking. The balancing payment for the course is payable on arrival on the first day.  Please note that, due to very a busy flying programme, we are unable to refund your deposit if you cancel your course within 6 weeks before your course start date.  If you choose to reschedule your course to another date, at least 2 weeks' notice must be given (otherwise you will lose your deposit).

  2. Complete our student background form from here.

  3. Pre-course reading – it is important to read and familiarise yourself with AUPRTA Rev 3 (ICAO).  This can be found here or downloaded as an app to your iPad from here

  4. Note that most courses start on a Monday and last 2-3 days; there is usually the option to carry on later in the week if (for example) we are delayed by weather.  We are closed on Sundays and bank holiday weekends.

  5. Note that during the winter months (December-February) it is most likely we will be operating out of Solent Airport (more info below) as Goodwood is grass and can be closed due to waterlogging.  Solent Airport is around a 45 minute drive to the west of Goodwood (it is west of Portsmouth near Gosport - more details below).  During these months, please do not pre-pay for any accommodation without confirming where we will be based.  We cannot be liable for any expenses incurred, should you wish to re-book your accommodation to a different location.

What to wear/bring:

  1. Please arrive for 8.45am on the first day of your course.

  2. Please bring your licence, medical and logbook with you (and passport if a non-UK citizen).

  3. Food & Drink - Please ensure that you are well rested and have a light breakfast before arriving as we do not recommend flying on an empty stomach.

  4. Clothing – please wear casual clothes and light footwear with flexible soles – trainers (not flying boots) are ideal.

  5. We provide headsets so there is no need to bring your own.

Local Transport to and from Goodwood Aerodrome:

  • Please be aware that it is NOT SAFE or suitable to walk to the Aerodrome from any accommodation as all the roads in the area are narrow country lanes without pavements. There are also no buses. Therefore, you will either need to use taxis or a hire car as transport (if you do not have your own car).

  • Goodwood Aerodrome is the same location as the Goodwood Motor Circuit. Postcode PO18 0PH, the nearest town is Chichester. We are 60 miles south of London, between Brighton and Southampton. The Aerodrome entrance is on Claypit Lane. Our location is accurate on Google Maps and full directions can be found here.

Travelling from Overseas to Goodwood:

  • Southampton Airport is 35 miles away and should take around 40 minutes by car, although if you are travelling in the rush hour, congestion on the M27 can cause it to take much longer than this.

  • London Gatwick Airport is 47 miles away (approx 1 hour by car and less affected by rush hour traffic).

  • Both Southampton and Gatwick Airports have good train connections to Chichester.  There are also direct trains from London Victoria which take around 1.5 hours.  Chichester railway station is a 10-15 minute taxi ride from the Aerodrome.

Accommodation - Goodwood Aerodrome - PO18 0PH:

  • During the winter months, please do not pre-pay for any accommodation before confirming with us which airfield we will be operating from (Goodwood or Solent Airport).

  • We do not normally recommend anywhere particular to stay as there is a lot of choice in the local area (see map below), and places can get very booked up.  It also depends on what your budget is and whether you prefer to be in the countryside or in town (Chichester, about 2 miles away).

  • The 2 nearest hotels are the Goodwood Hotel and the Chichester Park Hotel.  Please note that both hotels are around 1.5 miles away from the Aerodrome and the narrow roads are not suitable for pedestrians.

  • If you have a car, probably the cheapest place to stay is the Premier Inn or Travelodge in Chichester.  Otherwise, we recommend you try

Solent Airport - Daedalus Drive - PO13 9FU:

  • Solent Airport is to the west of Portsmouth and is around a 45 minute drive from Chichester.  Please follow directions to Solent Airport as the postcode may take you to the wrong location.

  • We are based in the Control Tower which is at the south of the airport on Daedalus Drive.  Please report to reception on arrival. There is a cafe in the same building.

  • If you do not have your own transport, there are good train connections from London Gatwick or Southampton Airport to Fareham railway station, which is about 6 miles away (15 minutes by taxi).  Fareham is usually quicker than coming via Portsmouth Harbour train and then Gosport Ferry (which Google may recommend).

  • There are several airbnb and bed & breakfasts within walking distance of the airport.  Lee-on-Solent High Street is approximately a 15 minute walk away.

  • The nearest hotels are around 6 miles away in Fareham.  There is also a Premier Inn in Fareham.

The Operations Manager or Staff Instructor will make a final weather decision regarding the weather.  We normally require the following weather minima:

  • Crosswind max gust 25 kts

  • Cloudbase 4000' - can generally be lower if suitable gaps up to 4000' available, Viz>3km
