Our Flight Safety Forum at Goodwood on 17 May 2026 brought together pilots, instructors, investigators and industry specialists to discuss the risks that matter in everyday flying.
The event was supported by Goodwood Aviation, Lycoming, Nicholson McLaren Aviation and Lightspeed Aviation.
From discussion to practical decisions
Topics included startle, upset prevention and recovery, landing discipline, forced landings, engine operation, partial power and defensive flying. The common thread was how to recognise a deteriorating situation and act while useful options remain.
The Forum also introduced work that has since developed into Adaptive Capacity and the Flight Safety Five. Adaptive Capacity explains why performance may deteriorate as demand rises. The Flight Safety Five provides a practical strategy for preserving the ability to respond.
